The first stage of the trail begins in the scenic Lilla Hycklinge. Follow the markings from the parking area. After a short walk, the hiker is greeted by sparkling waters. The trail follows a long, narrow lake, Eckern. Next to the lake, near the trail, you'll find the artist Axel "Döderhultarn" Pettersson's signature carved into the rock by the water's edge. After a bit more distance, you'll arrive at Döderhultarn's birthplace, Högatorp. The oldest building here dates back to the 1800s. The trail follows the old road through the village of Eckerhult and continues on paths and gravel roads, passing by Sjoketorp and reaching the village of Lämmedal, one of the oldest villages in Döderhults parish. Here, you'll find several old houses dating back to the 1700s. The hike continues on narrow forest paths. The goal for this stage, the first overnight cabin in Nynäs, is located near the meteorite lake Hummeln, deep within the lush Humlenäs nature reserve. Now it's time to bring out your swimwear, take a walk to the lake, and go for a swim in the clear, refreshing water.
The cabin is only accessible to hikers on the East Coast Trail. For information about the cabin, please see the Nynäs overnight cabin.
There is a bus connection after approximately 2 kilometers on stage 2, to Oskarshamn. For departure information, visit Kalmar County Traffic, KLT.
