Naturschutzgebiet
Around the Umeälven delta are Upper Norrland’s largest agricultural areas, Degernässlätten and Röbäcksslätten. They have been created from sludge that has been transported here by the rivers. Degernässlätten offers an excellent habitat for birds.
The delta and the surrounding alluvial plains are best known for their birds. Here you can see masses of geese, ducks and waders, particularly during the spring migration. At the end of April, thousands of gees can often be seen resting on the water and out on the fields, along with large flocks of cranes and whooper swans. As early as around midsummer, the delta hosts migrating birds on their way south, with curlews and whimbrels the first to arrive.
From Limpan, a loaf-shaped lookout point, you have a great view over Södra Degernässlätten. This is an excellent bird-watching spot in March and April, when large numbers of birds rest here. Limpan is accessible to disabled visitors with an attendant.
The area around Degernäsbäcken and the Skäret wetland both attract birds. After 15 May, you can walk or cycle along the route from Limpan to the observation point at Skårberget, where the sheep graze.
Kör N Obbolavägen från Umeå, förbi flygplatsen och sväng av mot Degernäs. "Skådarlimpan" ligger längs med vägen.
