Hanveden

The forest area that stretches across Södertörn from east to west has long been known as Hanveden. Here you will find coniferous forests with clear forest lakes, barren rocky areas and damp marshland. These are popular hiking areas with plenty of mushrooms and berries. Despite intensive forestry, the area has a wilderness character where you can meet osprey, capercaillie and black grouse, and the loon nests in the lakes. The largest lake, Öran, has a real wilderness feel with rocky shores and several small islands. Some deciduous forest grows on the western side of the lake, and rarer plants such as tibast, big rush and toothwort thrive here. Hanveden is also an important outdoor recreation area with a rich network of hiking trails where you can walk or ski in winter. The nature reserves Tornberget, Skeppnan and Svartsjön are located in Hanveden.
