A fire has killed many trees in this nature reserve. Dead trees may fall unexpectedly and without warning. Watch out and be careful when you visit the area.

Description

The Svartsjön nature reserve is located along the Sörmlandsleden hiking trail. The sense of wilderness is strong in the area. The reserve encompasses a patchwork of bedrock outcrops, pristine forests, mires and the two lakes, Svartsjön and Långsjön. Rare fungi grow in the area, including red ring rot. You may even spot game birds, such as black grouse and capercaillie, as well as rare insects.

Svartsjön was isolated from Lake Ancylus around 9000 years ago due to land rise after the Ice Age. Today, it sits at about 80 m above sea level and is one of the oldest lakes in the county. The Sörmlandsleden trail, section Riddartorp—Paradiset, goes through the reserve and leads towards Nynäshamn by Lake Långsjön.
