Description

Hike across three Lake Vänern islands

Tre Öars Led is a scenic hiking trail that begins on Vålön, the largest island in Kristinehamn, and continues across footbridges to the nearby islands of Kalvön and Sibberön – both protected nature reserves.

The 4-kilometre (one way) trail winds through untouched forests and along the shores of Lake Vänern, with opportunities to swim from both sandy beaches and smooth rocks.

Bring a packed lunch or a Swedish fika and enjoy it at one of the many beautiful spots with sweeping views over the lake. You are also welcome to try your luck fishing from Sibberön – recreational rod fishing in Vänern is free.

Facts

This is a great place to explore the islands outside Kristinehamn.

The islands have docks and places where you can park or tie up a boat. You will also find barbecue areas, wind shelters, and dry toilets. On Sibberön, there is a simple cabin where you can sleep if you bring your own sleeping mat.

There is no drinking water and no shops on the islands – bring all the food and water you need.

You might see white-tailed sea eagles, and in summer or autumn you can find blueberries and chanterelles. Fishing with a rod is allowed and free. Try your luck at Lakholmsuddarna – maybe you can catch your dinner!

Parking

The parking lot for the Picasso sculpture can be used next to Vålösundsbryggan.

Kristinehamn's guest harbor has parking.

Directions

The islands are accessible by boat. During summer, you can take boat bus 97 (Stöten) – check timetables online or at the Tourist Centre. You can also reach the islands by kayak or canoe. Kayaks can be rented via the self-service station Kayakomat, and canoes are available for rent at Herrgårdscampingen. If you prefer a motorboat, VÅG offers rentals – with the option to include fishing equipment.
