Description

Skarjevare is one of the larger remaining areas in Arvidsjaur where we find old-growth pine forest on dry moorland. The area has never been clear cut, but in the past certain large trees were felled by hand, and stumps from that time remain there. There are also many other cultural and ancient remains in the area. One of the rarer species here is the long-horned beetle nothorhina muricata, which thrives on old-growth pines in sunny locations. The area is 4.2 square kilometres. Note that snowmobiling is only permitted on snowmobile trails.

Continue just under 4 kilometres, turn off to the left onto a logging road which leads into the reserve and a car park after about 400 metres.
