Description

The Vackstaskogen nature reserve is located next to Vackstaviken bay, by Lake Långsjön in Södertälje municipality. Here, there are ecologically important mature coniferous and deciduous forests, rich with oak, linden and ash trees, as well as old aspens which provide important habitat for wood fungi, lichens and mosses.

The reserve was previously part of the old military training area, Almnäs. Remains from that time include an old fire suppression pond which is now home to the protected great crested newt and other aquatic animals and plants.

There are several gravel roads and smaller paths for walking in the reserve, which will take you to the shores of Lake Långsjön and Vackstaviken bay. By Vackstaviken bay, you can see beaver tracks in the form of felled trees and gnaw marks.
