Sjöbergs fornborg

The castle is located on a hill that is clearly distinguishable from the surrounding terrain. There are two entrances to the castle, one in the northeast and one in the southeast. From the castle you have a beautiful view of Edsviken. The castle was investigated by archaeologists in the 1980s. They found traces of settlements, older than the ancient castle and the castle wall. The wall was dated to the Migration Period around 400 - 550 AD, while the settlement traces and cultural layers turned out to be from the Late Bronze Age, around 800 - 500 BC, to the Early Iron Age around 500 BC - 500 AD. Archaeologists interpret the different dates as indicating that the ancient castle was used in different ways. Initially only as a settlement, it was later used as a place of refuge in times of danger.
