Description

On the peninsula of Ådö-Lagnö, you'll find an agricultural landscape rich in deciduous forests and old linden trees. The agricultural fields here are nestled between large continuous swaths of deciduous forest. Mistletoe, a protected parasitic plant, is common to see on the deciduous trees in the area, especially in the park around the Ådö manor house. Pine, spruce, oak and linden trees grow amongst thinly covered bedrock slabs in the more hilly parts of the reserve.

This diverse landscape provides ideal conditions for a wide variety of birds. Osprey and western marsh harrier come here to nest and resident birds, such as mistle thrush and Bohemian waxwing, enjoy the plentiful mistletoe berries in the wintertime. At the beach meadows, you can see birds such as northern lapwing, common snipe and whinchat. Great crested grebes are a typical sight among the reeds. A wide range of insects make their home in the deciduous forests. The old large linden trees here are home to no less than six endangered linden beetles—making Ådö-Lagnö unique and one of the country's most valuable linden tree areas.
