Description
It is an experience to walk on the wooden planks that lead across the vast open wetland. The church footbridge is wide enough to accommodate both prams and wheelchairs. The favorite spot is located at Hagudden in the southern part of the footbridge. There is a picnic and barbecue area surrounded by some old oaks. At the northern end of the path there is a high bird tower, windbreak and fireplace. From the tower you have a nice view of the wetland and its bird life.
There has been a footbridge across Nordmyran since ancient times. The footbridge was part of the church path that residents in the area took when they went to Tärnsjö for errands or church services. Each landowner was responsible for their part of the footbridge. In 1931 the path was completely destroyed by the great spring flood, so in 1975 a new 660 m long path was built across the marsh. In the fall of 2001, it was seen that the church path, and the church footbridge needed to be restored again and three years and many volunteer hours later, a new footbridge was in place.
Hagudden at Kyrkspången is one of Upplands Smultron sites in nature. A Smultronställe is an area with high nature and outdoor values. The grass at Nordmyran is cut every year by tractor. This benefits birds that nest in the area, such as curlews, marsh harriers and cranes. Many other birds also rest here during their migration period.
The entire Kyrkstigen is 9 km long and runs between Skekarsbo and Nora church, in Tärnsjö. It is part of the westernmost stretch of the Upplandsleden.
Service: Handicapped accessible footbridge. Dry toilet (not accessible), fireplace and shelter at Hagudden at the southern end of the trail. Dry toilet (not adapted for the disabled), fireplace, small windbreak and bird tower at Österbo at the northern end of the path. For those who have difficulty walking, it is possible to drive from the church along the first part of the church path down to a turnaround about 300 m from Hagudden and follow the gravel road all the way.
