Description

Gåeryds Rasbranter Nature Reserve is beautifully situated in the Småland countryside, overlooking Lake Rusken. In the area there is a bench and a footpath of about 650 metres that is marked in red around trees.

The area is characterised by a steep slope and deciduous forest, rich in herbs and birds. The change in elevation is about 40 metres and the reserve also has a cold spring. You can come here to see the lily of the valley in spring or to listen for small birds such as the willow warbler, blackcap, garden warbler, chaffinch, flycatcher, robin and thrush nightingale. You may also catch a glimpse of some cavity-nesting birds, such as the Eurasian wryneck, wood pigeon, tawny owl and great spotted woodpecker.

The deciduous forest is mainly oak, mixed with a variety of other deciduous trees, mostly lime and beech. There are several rare plants in the area. Some of the more unusual species include wood millet, giant fescue, spring pea, coral root, baneberry and sweet woodruff.

Skärvälla swimming area is close to the nature reserve.
