Söderbärke - Smedjebacken, Romboleden Etapp 6

Walk alongside the lake Norra Barken and experience an old manor house environment and a well-kept blast furnace.

You walk on a tarmac road and sometimes on a gravel cycle track. This is easy walking, and you could easily ride a cycle instead.

In Söderbärke the church is placed beautifully on a headland by the lake. About in the middle of the stage stands the Mäss stone by an old execution site from the end of the 17th century. A short walk from there lies Wanbo Manor. Here tired walkers can stay in the hotel or eat in the restaurant. Near Smedjebacken you will find Flatenbergs blast furnace, a well-kept old iron-working site. The stage finisch at Norrbärke church in Smedjebacken.

The stage goes from Söderbärke church and on through the village and along a scenic road by the Norra Barken lake and Strömsholm canal. In Vanbo you pass Wanbo mansion with the possibility of overnight stay and lunch. After Vanbo, you walk on towards Flatenberg and its cabin and approach Smedjebacken. The stage ends at Norrbärke church in central Smedjebacken.

The entire stage is wheelchair accessible except for a couple of slopes at Rastahyttan and at Söderbärke church, where assistance may be needed.

Along the trail there are great opportunities to take a break, find a spot for camping or just enjoy your packed lunch.

Romboleden (Rombo Way) is a pilgrimage route that people began using in the 11th century. The Romboleden is Sweden’s longest pilgrimage route at 900 kilometres long. It starts in Köping in Västmanland and finishes in Trondheim on the Norwegian Atlantic coast. If you walk the entire trail, you will experience a beautiful and varied landscape. You will walk on old chalet paths, over mountains with magnificent vistas and along narrow country gravel roads. You will find easy one-day walks with cafés along the way, and long treks that take several days. The route often passes through small villages.
