Rogslösa kyrka

Rogslösa church is located at the foot of Omberg between the lakes Vättern and Tåkern. It stands out in the landscape through its high tower. Inside you can see the famous entrance portal. There sits the Rogslösadörren, one of Sweden's finest works of art from the Middle Ages, made by an anonymous master, called the Rogslösmästaren. The door is made of wood with wrought iron ornaments of various kinds. The ornaments consist of lilies, leaves, rings and so on. At the top is a hunting motif, which is inspired by the legend of Saint Eustachius. According to the legend, Eustachius was a Roman general who, during a hunt, saw the cross of Christ between the horns of a stag, which he was chasing. Eustachius subsequently became a Christian and a martyr.
