Halm Exhibition and Art Craft History

Five minutes drive east of downtown Bengtsfors is Halmens Hus – the only museum in the Nordic countries. Halm was used, at the beginning of time, primarily to braid and sew different uses – but also in different ritual contexts. As long as man has used the earth, as long as we have used straw as material. A permanent exhibition tells the history of the straw lie and its importance to Dalsland as extra livelihood in poor homes.

The exhibition hall also organises temporary exhibitions throughout the year, focusing on crafts, crafts and other interesting art forms.

At Halmens Hus you will receive the highest quality Swedish homework, primarily created by local artisans. In the shop there is a lot of straw sled, but also artisan in wood, ceramics, textiles, fists and glass. If you want to trade more items after your visit, there is also a webshop.

If you want to try it yourself, the museum has a comprehensive course business where you can learn different veil, embroidery and braiding techniques. Maybe make your own handbag or straw hat – or buy with some straw knife and continue to kiss at home?
