STF Karlskrona Kronohäktet

Kronohäktet was built in 1910–1911 as a solitary confinement prison and was manly populated by conscientious objectors and civilians awaiting trial. At the time, the cells were furnished with a simple bed and mattress, chamber pot and small writing desk. Nowadays it is a listed building and part of the Karlskrona World Heritage site. The prison was restored in 2018 and is now a comfortable and unique hostel, situated on beautiful Stumholmen.

There has been a careful renovation done to turn the old cells into bedrooms. The rooms are cosy and bright with windows. Although they are small in size, the space is used efficiently to make your stay comfortable. Each room contains comfortable beds and a small desk, TV and fridge.

Large, clean shared toilets and shower rooms are available in connection with the bedrooms on each floor. There is also a reception and a nice guest kitchen. There are laundry facilities that can be booked. Of course there is also free WiFi.

On the ground floor in the old boiler room, there is a popular restaurant in summertime. During the warm months, you can eat and enjoy the view out over the archipelago. There are also rooms that are excellent for conferences and various types of event. In these newly renovated facilities, you will find original details from the building’s time as a prison . The environment is modern minimalist, but simultaneously warm and inviting.

STF Karlskrona Kronohäktet is just a few metres from the Naval Museum and another couple of hundred metres from the city centre. This means that you are in the best possible location for experiencing Karlskrona and its surroundings.

The reception has varying opening hours depending on the time of year and day of the week. During the height of summer, we are open daily 7am-7pm, other times of the year usually weekdays 8am-4pm. Check-in is possible at the earliest from 14.00. Contact us well in advance of arrival if you have questions or if you are to be arriving late.
