Description

Hemmershult Mill has a long history, and in the Middle Ages it belonged to Nydala Abbey. The mill setting, on both sides of River Härån, shows a collected and well-preserved settlement with a mill, sawmill and forge. The mill was operated with water power from River Härån.

The current mill was built in the mid-19th century, and an additional storey was added in 1903. The timbered building has three full storeys, a façade with Falun-red cover boarding with rib flanges, white joinery around the mullioned windows and a roof covered with single-domed clay tiles. A transport bridge made of stone and wood leads to the second storey of the mill. Inside, the entire mill machinery is preserved with millstones, rolling mills, cleaning machines and sieves. Barley groats mill, peelers, oat crushers, pickling machines and threshing machines are also part of the inventory.
