Description

Kärda Parish Church was built 1875-76 according to designs by architect Johan Fredrik Åbom. The church was preceded by several earlier church buildings from the Middle Ages.

Kärda Church was built at the end of the neoclassical era in empirical style, which shows a break with the late 19th century neo-styles such as mixed historicism and neo-Romanesque.

The church is a hall church and consists of a rectangular nave and a five-sided apse in the east. To the north there is a vestry. There is a steeple with a pointed spire to the west and a five-sided apse to the east.

Kärda Church has granite foundations, brick walls and a gable roof. The façades are rough cast in white. The roof surfaces are clad in copper sheeting, as is the tower spire. The spire is crowned by a cross.

The church hall has a barrel-vaulted ceiling with white-painted tongued, grooved and beaded wood panelling. The walls are smoothly plastered and painted white. The interiors include a red sandstone christening font from 1640 and a neoclassical pulpit.
