Description
The artist Carl Eldh was working as an ornamental sculptor when, at the age of 19, he was admitted to the Technical School in Stockholm, now known as Konstfack, with a view to studying sculpture in Paris. His time in Paris was the starting point for his life as an independent artist.
He was inspired by Auguste Rodin but developed his own style. During the 1920s and 30s, Carl Eldh was, alongside Christian Eriksson and Carl Milles, the most frequently commissioned sculptor in Sweden, and his works can still be found throughout Sweden.
‘Innocence’, which stands along River Lagan in Åbroparken in Värnamo, is a replica of the sculpture with which Carl Eldh represented Sweden at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. It earned him an honourable mention from the French state.
