Description

‘Tidsspegeln’ (The Time Mirror) was made by Rune Karlzon in stainless steel in the late 1960s and is located outside the Expo School on Ringvägen in Värnamo. The inspiration for the sculpture is a tree that extends upwards and outwards. “A figure stretching out mirrors to temporarily capture our thoughts” (from ‘Konst i den öppna miljön’).

Rune Karlzon was multi-faceted, working as a sculptor, draughtsman, wood carver and graphic artist. He also designed several medals, including the Vasaloppet medals and the 1971 Nobel Prize medals. From the late 1960s onwards, he mostly made sculptures and reliefs in sheet metal, copper and bronze.

In addition to numerous museums and private collections in Sweden, he is also represented abroad at the British Museum, the Coin Cabinet in The Hague, the National Museum in Krakow, the Poster Museum in Warsaw, the Modern Medal Museum in Wroclaw and the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm. Purchased by the Municipality of Värnamo in 1970.
