Description

The runestone is of gneiss and dates from the 11th century. Margretelund, Värnamo.

The runestone is of granite and was erected in the 11th century. [MA1] The rune stone is 3.15 metres high and 0.6 metres wide, slightly tapering upwards.

The inscription on the rune stone translates as: “Torunn set the stone after Eskil, her husband, and after her sons Sven and Tove. God help their souls.”

The runestone is known as the Västhorjastenen stone. The runestone has been mentioned in writings dating back as far as the 17th century.

Regulations

The runestone is an ancient remains and is protected by the Cultural Environment Act. Chapter 2, § 6. It is forbidden to disturb, remove, excavate, cover or through building, planting or otherwise alter or damage ancient remains without a licence under this chapter. Act (2013:548).
