Trail description

Halltorp is one of the most species-rich places in Sweden. In addition, it is a wonderful environment to spend time in. Halltorp hage has several different hiking trails and there are tours to suit everyone. All trails have names and colour markings and it is easy to navigate and find your way around the nature reserve.

Periodically, some areas in the reserve are very wet and therefore there are trails to walk on. There are thirteen giant oaks, trees with a circumference of over one metre, in the reserve. Eight of them are alive and between five and seven hundred years old. The oak beetle, a very rare beetle, can only live in very large oak trees, so it thrives in the reserve along with several other rare wood-dwelling beetles.

All the trails in the reserve are circuits that start and end in the same place.

Follow the orange markings.

Facts

Housing for many.

In spring the forest is alive with the chatter of starlings. Stop by trees with hollows and you might hear the young starlings calling their parents. Other birds that like to settle in tree hollows are the lesser spotted woodpecker and the wood pigeon. Bats also move into the hollows. But birds and bats also need food to survive. And there is plenty of it. Both the canopy and the flower-rich fields are full of insects, hunted by the birds by day and the bats by night!

Halltorp's flowers

In the spring, the coniferous forest and the deciduous meadows offer beautiful flowers. First come the white, blue and yellow syrups, spring onions and goldenrod. They are followed by St. Peter's keys, cowslip, toothwort and spring pea. And the stately guckuskon, which grows in the southern leafy meadow. In summer, you can see a variety of flowers on the grazed meadows, such as strawberry clover, snake's tongue and coastal fern. A little further inland, there are rosemary, bride's broom and the orchids spotted knapweed and St John's wort. If you go to the pasture at the eastern car park, you may see the top-heavy buttercup and another orchid - the gunpowder burnet
