Description

Did you know we had witches in Ljungby? One of the first women in Sweden to be accused of being a witch was Elin in Horsnäs, outside Ljungby, and she is the most famous Swedish alleged witch before the great witch hunt in the latter part of the 17th century. During her trial, she did not admit to being a witch even under torture. However, she confessed to the murder of her first husband, probably in order to receive a "lighter" execution such as beheading instead of burning. Elin was sentenced to death on 28 September 1611 and was subsequently executed.
