The graves in this burial ground were excavated on several occasions around the turn of the century 1800-1900. The excavations of that time were focused on finding magnificent finds and they cared less about studying the lives and customs of the people. Among the many finds of glass beads and iron objects, several gold objects were also found. The largest mound is called Kungshögen but contained only a few finds. The graves at Bolmsö are generally richer than other graves from the younger Iron Age (500-1050 AD) in the area. The island of Bolmen probably had a special significance for the region during that time.
