Description
Not far from Lagan's shore is the Replösastenen, a rune stone from
11th century, (Younger Iron Age). Through the Replösten we know the name of one of the
the first people in Ljungby, Åstrad, "Götrad did this care after Åstrad, the best of
the kinsmen and Odalmen who lived in Finnveden in the past". Today you can see Astrad
and Götrad as a statue at Stora torg in the center of Ljungby. Finnveden is also mentioned on the stone, which is
one of the smaller land areas that later became part of the province of Småland.
Next to the runestone is a ship's dock. The grave is restored and should
originally having twelve stones in the shape of a ship. Probably both
the runestone, the shipwreck and the burial ground on the other side of the road from the same
time.
The tour is compiled with, among other things, materials
from Smålands Museum "On the lookout",
"Kulturminnen Lagadalen" from hugin&mumin and Sagobygden.
