Directions
The nature reserve is located on Junkön, about 15 km southeast of central Luleå. You get here by following the road that leads from Junkö village in the east to Valludden in the west. After about 1 km you reach the northern border of the reserve. The easiest way to get to the island is by tour boat from Luleå. In winter, when the sea ice is good enough, the easiest way to reach Junkön is via Luleå municipality's ice road that starts at Tjuvholmssundet. You then drive first over Sandön, where you follow a plowed road until you come to a turnoff signposted to Junkön. Then follow this road further towards the western shore of Junkön. The speed at which the ice road to Junkön is cleared each winter depends on the weather and ice conditions, and this is announced on the municipality's website.
