Description

Welcome to a vibrant nature reserve at the distant end of Munsö island, on Lake Mälaren. During the summer, Väsby hage exhibits a floral splendour unmatched by any other nature reserve in the county. Here, you can experience wildflower-rich meadows that have been managed since the 1700s using traditional methods. There are also magnificent oaks, forests and open pastures to roam.

The wide variety of wildflowers and older deciduous forests, in combination with the mild local climate, has created ideal conditions for many special insects. You can see the sun-loving black and red zygaenid moth flittering around the hay meadow in July and many unusual beetles make their homes in the old deciduous trees. For those interested in birds, keep an eye out for hawfinches and black woodpeckers, among other exciting species.

Along the shores of Lake Mälaren to the west, you'll find nice cliffs for sunning and swimming.

Section 2 of the Ekerö-Munsöleden trail passes through the reserve.
