Ronneby harbour is no longer in use but was an active cargo harbour since the Middle Ages. All of Kockum’s enamel products were shipped out around the world from here, for example. On the eastern side there was a narrow-gauge railway with a station called Ronneby Redd and a little station yard. It was also popular to travel on by steamer out to the island of Karön. You can see a pillar in the middle of the river which was part of a swing bridge so that boats could pass. Fishermen have also rowed here throughout history, giving rise to the popular Sillarodden rowing contest. Competitors in this race enter their team and vessel and then transport a box of herring along the river and sell it in the town square. Today Ronneby wants to develop the harbour area, which has become slightly overlooked, but offers amazing views. If you want to get out on the water, either in the archipelago or on the river, Blekinge surf hires SUPs and kayaks. Source: Ronneby municipality
