At Bårby Källa there are two hiking trails, one of 1.8 km and one of 6 km, which take you out into a varied Alvar landscape.
The hiking trail starts from the parking lot at Möckelmossen, on the south side of the road between Resmo and Stenåsa. The trail is marked with stone cairns and has the shape of a figure eight, where you can choose to walk either the shorter or the slightly longer circle. A recommendation is to walk the loop counterclockwise from the parking lot, i.e. keep to the right (western part of the loop). This also applies from the four-way junction and on towards the source.
There is a toilet in the car park. Dogs should not be taken as there are grazing animals in the area.
The trail follows small ridges and plateaus alternating with lower sections, mostly limestone rocks that after snowmelt and rainy periods are waterlogged and therefore the trail is preferable in summer or other dry periods.
Lichen and mosses For the geologically interested there is much to discover and for those who just want to enjoy the beautiful landscape, the plants, the birdsong and the tranquillity, this trail has a lot to offer. There are also plenty of lovely places to take a snack.
The area features many of the alvar's unique habitats such as dry and wet meadows, wetlands, grassland, sunflower heaths, limestone outcrops and abundant rocky and karst meadows. Along the trail there is a great wealth of the alvar's distinctive plants, lichens and mosses. The mournful call of the heather pipit can often be heard and the incessant drone of the lark accompanies you throughout the walk.
From the ice sheet There are plenty of boulders and stones, mostly granite, which probably originated in the Småland bedrock and accompanied the ice sheet.
