Are there fjords in Blekinge? The answer is yes! A fjord is a long, narrow inlet formed by glaciers and the southernmost fjord in Sweden is outside Ronneby. This is where you find the former fishing village of Vieryd, surrounded by a traditional arable and grazing landscape. The area is beautiful and has an interesting history. The river Vierydsån is naturally rich in nutrients and home to several species of migratory fish such as sea trout, eel and whitefish. Otters have also been seen on several occasions. Vierydsfjorden is surrounded by a beautiful, patchwork landscape with coastal meadows, groves and open meadowland. The community of Vieryd runs along the road that runs between Järnavik in the west and Saxemara in the east. The road through the former fishing village has been designated one of the most beautiful roads in Blekinge and at the mouth of the Vierydsån river you can also admire an old stone vaulted bridge. There is also a small swimming spot here. Near Vieryd you will find the “3 små hus Bed & Breakfast” where you can spend the night with the forest and the sea on your doorstep.
