Tre backar

The Tre backar nature reserve is host to many rare and endangered species of mosses, fungi and lichens. The reserve consists primarily of coniferous forest with some old aspens, swamps and exposed bedrock.

In the far north of the reserve, there are two deciduous marshes and an ancient oak. The forests here have not been logged and the soil is rich in limestone deposits, giving rise to an unusual abundance of flowering plant and fungal species. You can find several species of orchids, as well as edible delicacies like the yellow foot mushroom. The hanging lichens indicate the long continuity of the forests here.

Due to a plethora of large boulders, the area is not easy to access but this lack of human intrusion has benefitted birds that are sensitive to disturbance, such as grouse and woodpeckers. A hiking trail takes you through the reserve's coniferous forests and wetlands.
