Omschrijving
The Kalvtjärn area has long been used by people both for hay-making and for collecting wood. These people have left faint traces behind them. As a result, the forest has retained its natural appearance in the area that has now become a nature reserve.
A poisonous resident
The path makes its way through open, old spruce forest, with trees that are up to a metre in diameter. Witch’s hair hangs from the branches like long beards. Rare fungi such as the pink Fomitopsis rosea and the Skeletocutis odora, which smells of cheese, thrive on stumps and giant trees that have fallen to the ground. The path is bordered by tall herbs such as the wolfsbane and the alpine sow-thistle. The wolfsbane is one of Sweden’s most poisonous plants. At the end of the path you can find a wind shelter next to a lake.
Cliff with a view
Kalvberget’s cliff wall is spectacular, rising 100 metres above the ground. The mountain is made of limestone. Calcicole plants such as ascending saxifrage, northern hollyfern and green spleenwort cling to from the cliff wall like mountaineers.
Getting to the top of the mountain requires a considerable effort. If you manage it, you will be met by extensive views over the mountains in the west. Here, where the forest meets the mountains.
