Hjälmare kanalturen

The tour takes you from Arboga city center, out to Hjälmare kanal. You leave the historic city center behind you and cycle west, then follow the Arbogaån's flowing water downstream. You follow the marked cycle path and come out to the Ekbacken area. Here you pass Arboga Industripark where among the company Saab, which is Arboga's largest private company.

Then you cycle a short distance along the E20 on your one side and with Arboga airfield on the other side. The Arboga glider club is here, so if you're lucky you might see an airplane in the air. When you come to a small bicycle bridge over the old Hjälmare canal, you can choose to lead the bicycle over the European road to cycle on to Gravudden, which is the northern end of the Hjälmare canal and its outlet in the Arboga river. From here, the bike ride on the canal bank continues south. You pass several locks, magnificent oaks and unique nature before you get to Hjälmare dock.

At the small cycle bridge, you can also choose to follow the cycle path south. You will then have a slightly easier trip and will not have to cross E20. You cycle on the gravel road along the old Hjälmare canal and pass several larger farms. After about 2 kilometers you will arrive at Hjälmare dock.

Maybe you'll stop by Hjälmare dock for ice cream and coffee. Take the opportunity to visit Kvarnsjönsbadplats located 300 meters south of Hjälmaredocka.

Next to the swimming area is Cafe Kvarnfallet with coffee and home baked goods.

On the way back to Arboga, you can choose the nice tour over Arboga's old airfield. You then pass a medieval stone church in Säterbo. The tour is on a nice paved road but is a little more hilly than the tour along the canal.
