Arboga, Lasse-Maja spåret

The Lasse-Maja trail in Arboga is a really nice and well-kept trail that is excellent for both hiking and running. The trail goes through a variety of nature scenes in the forests south of Arboga. The entire route is 23 km but it is possible to both shorten and extend your trek by jumping on other adjacent trails. Trail runners or hikers who want to spend the night in Arboga's forests can extend their trip by switching on to the popular Tjurlångsleden trail. For runners looking for shorter routes, there are several variations starting from the Skidstugan cottage.

The name of the trail comes from a famous 19th-century thief who often disguised himself as a woman and spent his last years in Arboga. The trail is also the site of a popular running competition, the Lasse-Maja race, which has been held here since the mid-'70s.

Since a trek along this route can be adapted to any length, this is a trail that can suit many different groups, from families with children to long-distance runners. The trail is well-marked and mainly consists of natural forest paths. Although occasionally, the trail runs on rural gravel roads and even asphalt. Rest areas with public barbecue grills can be found at Maxelmossen and the Skidstugan cottage. There are also toilet facilities at Maxelmossen.

The trail starts at Ekbackens IP athletic field in Arboga and is marked with signs indicating distance for those going in a clockwise direction on the trail.You can also park at the Skidstugan cottage and get on the trail there.

Feel free to take the opportunity to explore Arboga's city centre as a part of your hiking trip. The city is known for its well-preserved cobbled streets, mediaeval squares and old courtyards. There are several cosy cafés and restaurants, where you can sit outside and enjoy the special atmosphere of Arboga.
