Kalvenrundan

To find Kalvenleden, go behind the reception building at Tjärö. Cross a smaller hill and walk up to a gate. Go through the gate and follow the path in the direction of the bridge over the canal.

Go over the bridge. This is where the circular loop around Kalven begins. You choose which direction you want to go. If you follow the description here, you choose to go left and follow the beach meadow along the canal. The trail is marked with pink markings on trees and posts. The trail bends up towards a hill and on the other side you look out over the water. The trail turns off again up the rock face and you then go down a former farmland. You will pass a valley with open pasture between two bays. Then you go up again and come out on the part of the island called Kalven. Here the trail goes on to a barbecue area. You can stay here or continue further out on the headland and enjoy the fine view towards Bjärnö and towards Järnavik.

The trail continues along Kalven's eastern side in a landscape with very open outcrops with elements of oak. Here you get very nice views out over the sea and towards the mainland. When you have passed the southern headland, the bay leads upwards again and you will pass a tree-covered hill and then go down to a swimming cove with a barbecue area. Here it is steep down a few steps. Once down, the pasture opens up.

From here you follow the beach and continue over rock outcroppings towards the next headland. Here, too, you walk close to the water and can enjoy nice views or settle down and sunbathe on the rocks. When you've rounded the headland, you can see towards the long jetty at Tjärö. Here the trail passes between gnarled oaks, which are characteristic of the coast in Blekinge. At an opening between the oaks there is a good place for bathing. From there you continue to follow the path through forest and meadow back to the bridge over the canal.

Feel free to combine the Kalvenrundan with the other trails on Tjärö. There are many nice environments here. Both cows and sheep graze and help to preserve the open landscape with pastures, cultivated fields and flowering bushes on Tjärö. Therefore, remember to keep your dog on a lead when you are on the island.
