Trail description Djurstad swamp is known for its rich bird life. A walk on a boardwalk through the marsh will take you to the bird tower. There you have the chance to see and hear one of the twenty species that thrive in wetlands and that breed in Djurstad swamp. Common sparrow, reed warbler, crane, mallard, grackle and greylag goose are among the most common. The area's character species are the meadowlark and the brown marsh hawk. Grazing has resumed in the area and with it waders such as the chiffchaff and red-legged partridge have increased in number.
Climb up the bird tower and enjoy the view over the marsh, which is an agmyr and surrounded on several sides by valuable and species-rich natural pastures. The footpath and boardwalk take you to the bird tower and then you have to walk back the same way. In the area it is allowed to camp for one night and make a fire in a designated place.

Fakty
Rare butterflies The Grey-crowned Fritillary Moth, which is only found on Öland and Gotland in the world, has a rich population here. Streaked marsh moth, tortie moth, meadow fritillary moth, four-spotted dyer moth, brown-eared dwarf moth, rocking fly dyer moth and yellow-grey reed moth are other examples.
Former lake Djurstad marsh was formerly a lake, which was lowered in the 1920s to create more arable land. After draining, the wetland has been used as a mowing area. The last time hay was cut was in the dry year of 1959. In the northern part of the wetland, grazing has resumed in recent years.
Remember! During the period between April and August when there is a ban on walking (1/4-15/8), it is not permitted to stray from the path or footpath.
