The hunting season is underway in the forest! Elk hunting takes place between October 8, 2023, and January 31, 2024.
Please pay close attention to signs indicating that hunting is in progress. You are always welcome to hike on our trails, but if hunting is taking place in the area, we encourage you to choose a different location.
Here are some tips during the hunting period:
The eighth stage of the trail begins at the overnight cabin in Hällveberg. The hike takes you through the forest down towards Virån, crossing a bridge, and then follows the riverbank southward. Take a moment to enjoy the view at Åmötsberget before crossing Virån again via another bridge. Now, you've arrived at the Stensjö by cultural reserve, owned by the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities. In the picturesque village with its red houses and surrounding fences, the trail veers off and continues on a gravel road through beautiful pastures.
Eventually, the enchanting Långsjön comes into view, and from a height, you can gaze out over the small forest lake with its abundance of white water lilies when in season. The trail now alternates between small tractor roads and narrow forest paths, eventually reaching the road towards Skrikebo, which it follows for a stretch. At the former croft Björkelund, a lovely pasture area unfolds. At little Nybo pond, you'll find the final opportunity for a swim on this stage. The shores are steep, and the pond is quite deep, so caution is advised. The last part of the stage takes you through the pine forest and out onto the village road through Hycklinge. Follow the road to the trail entrance and the overnight cabin at Lilla Hycklinge, completing the circle.
The overnight cabin is only accessible to hikers on the East Coast Trail. For information about the cabin, please see the Lilla Hycklinge overnight cabin.
