The best way to explore the world heritage Karlskrona is from the sea side.

Paddling in the World Heritage Naval City of Karlskrona is unique for several reasons. Firstly, Karlskrona is one of the few cities in the world to be designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its unique planning and architecture. Paddling along the city's water channels provides a unique experience of the city's history and culture. In addition, Karlskrona is surrounded by beautiful nature and sea views that can also be experienced from the canal.

A good starting point for the tour is at Fisktorget, which is an old marketplace for civilians during the city's growth in the late 17th century. There is a good kayak jetty there, also the possibility to rent a kayak 24 hours a day with an unmanned automatic station. Book directly in the ARK56 app here.

Depending on your level of knowledge, you can then put together your own paddle tour around some of the 33 islands that make up the world heritage city of Karlskrona. Brändaholm, Sweden's most famous allotment garden area, the Pulverhuset on Ljungskär and the old fish market are some of the sights in the World Heritage.

If you are a beginner, feel free to choose ARK56's smaller Trossö loop or the big Karlskrona loop, which are largely protected.

If you have experience and are aware of the weather, you can also go outside Karlskrona's protected city center, for example to the fortification towers Godnatt. However, remember to stay well outside the military protection area at Örlogshamnen and keep an eye on the signs.

Maximize the experience with the help of a kayak guide

Our guide companies in the ARK56 business network can help provide a deeper understanding of the city's history and attractions. The guide can point out and tell you about the historic buildings along the canals, such as Brändaholm, the Marine Museum and Karlskrona's kruthus. In addition, the guide can also help identify and describe the various marine animal species that can be seen from the canoe.
