In Björketorp, in Johannishus, there is a unique ancient monument known as the Björketorp Runestone. The stone is unusual in that it has a curse inscribed on it. One interpretation reads: “Honourable master of the runes, I here hid mighty runes. Restless with anger, dead by cunning shall he who breaks this be. I prophesy destruction.” The stone is flanked by another two stones, but these do not have inscriptions. The carvings are dated to around 600–700 CE. The monument is beside a grave field and there are numerous other ancient monuments nearby, including stone circles, stone ships and burial sites. While nearby, take the opportunity to visit Björketorpsgård where they make their own organic ice cream flavoured with locally grown fruit and berries.
