Gärestad is a site that has probably been populated since the Stone Age. Here, on either side of the E22 motorway, are some of the biggest burial cairns from the early Bronze Age to be found in Blekinge. North off the road, and hidden by it, there is a cairn in Målarberget that is four metres high and about 25 metres in diameter. Slightly further east and south of the road, well visible from the motorway, is the burial cairn at Hamrabackarna, which is four metres high and about 25 metres in diameter. The high, dominating position is typical of these large cairns. While you are admiring these large ancient monuments, it’s worth stopping off at the delightful Äggaboden which serves food and has a farm shop. Source: Wikipedia
