Valuable nature
We have author, zoologist and photographer Bengt Berg to thank for the fact that the mighty wing beats of the white-tailed sea-eagles can be heard across Eriksberg. He put a huge amount of work into ensuring that the eagles were protected. His book “De sista örnarna” (The last eagles) and a film about the eagles, created a debate that resulted in white-tailed sea-eagles and golden eagles being granted protected species status. His last book contains an additional chapter about how he gave the eagles sanctuary at Eriksberg and fed them. The white-tailed sea-eagle is the largest bird of prey in northern Europe and one of the biggest in the world. The male, which can have a wingspan of up to 220 centimetres, is smaller than the female, which can have a wingspan of up to 250 centimetres. As late as 2021 there were 88 white-tailed sea-eagles in Blekinge. At Eriksberg Vilt & Natur you can book an exciting eagle safari, usually in January and February. Source: Eriksberg Vilt & Natur
