Despite its name, the little community of Norje has nothing to do with Norway. Its name is thought to come from the word Nor, which means “sound”. The village was also once on the shore of the now drained lake Vesan. The area by the water’s edge is beautiful and this is where you will find the popular Norje Havsbad campsite. But worldwide, Norje is probably best known for the Sweden Rock Festival. This music festival dates back to the 1980s but has expanded over the years. It changed its name to the current “Sweden Rock Festival” in 1999 when it started to focus more on hard rock. The festival gained its current form in 2001 and attracts thousands of visitors from around the world every year. There is a shop next to the festival area open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The shop closes in mid-May to prepare for the festival in June. Source: Wikipedia
