MOUNTAINBIKE AND BMX

At Hökafältet in Mellbystrand, you’ll find the mountain bike trail known as “Buktenbanan.” It’s a 12-kilometer marked trail that offers family-friendly mountain biking in the coastal nature reserve. Buktenbanan winds its way through the pine forest and along the waters of the river Lagan. In the summer of 2021, the green trail was inaugurated, offering playful mountain biking with curves and challenging roots suitable for children and beginners. If you want to refine your skills and challenge yourself a bit more, you can explore the adventurous technical track. You’ll also find more mountain biking trails in Skummeslövsstrand and in the Norra Skummeslövs nature reserve. Are you curious about BMX riding? Then you’re in luck because in Våxtorp, you’ll find Sweden’s first indoor BMX cycling facility – Vallens BMX Hall.

RECREATIONAL CYCLING AND KATTEGATTLEDEN

Laholm is the perfect place for those seeking recreational cycling and want to pedal for their well-being, whether on your own or with family and friends. Here, you can experience the beach and sea, rolling countryside, lakes, forests, and hills – all at your own pace with pleasant picnic stops along the way. There are car-free cycling paths between several of the municipality’s towns, and we have a network of quiet, well-maintained roads and gravel paths to cycle on. Kattegattleden is Sweden’s first national tourist cycling route. The coastal route is 39.5 miles long and stretches from Helsingborg in the south to Gothenburg in the north. In Laholm, Kattegattleden passes through the charming coastalvillages of Mellbystrand and Skum-meslövsstrand. When cycling through our municipality, we recommend making a detour into Laholm’s town center for some cultural experiences.

ROAD CYCLING

Road cyclists have been gathering in Laholm for training rides and cycling camps for many years. Our road network offers varied and scenic cycling on paved back roads. The slopes of Hallandsås provide challenges with substantial climbs and opportunities for rides with significant elevation gain. Perhaps you’ll bring your cycling club here for your next training ride? Please remember that you share trails and roads with those who live and work around here. The “allemansrätt” (the Swedish Right of Public Access) is fantastic, allowing you to cycle almost everywhere – and that’s why we are very grateful when you choose to show consideration, stick to the trails, and ride extra carefully when in sensitive terrain.
