Södra Ljunga kulturhistoriska tur

Start at the hostel in Södra Ljunga church village. Near the hostel at Ling’s hill, you will find the Ling Museum and the Ling Bust, commemorating Pehr Henrik Ling, considered the father of Swedish gymnastics.

Continue your journey towards the southeastern edge of Lake Ljunga and make a stop at the birdwatching tower, a popular spot for migrating birds.

The tour proceeds to Liagården and the stone cairn grave, one of many ancient and cultural heritage sites in the area. When leaving Liagården for Hårenberg, cycle first towards Läsaryd, then turn right onto the old road to Läsaryd.

Along the way, you will pass a few houses, including Gåsagård. The road narrows, becomes grass-covered, and crosses private land.

Here, at "Pimmpens," a tenant farmer once lived with small crops. After a conflict with the landowner, he was evicted from the area. When he reached an agreement with a landowner on the other side, he moved his cottage across the road and was able to continue farming there.

A little further on, hazel, rowan, and other deciduous trees form a canopy that you cycle under. A few hundred meters before the village road leading to Näs and Kuggaboda, turn left towards Hårenberg. On the right side of the road, there used to be a sawmill powered by a steam engine (locomobile). The timber worked on there came from the Christmas storm of 1902, a predecessor to the Gudrun storm that hit this region hard. The former 18th-century vicarage (now the Ling Museum) was moved to Hårenberg and used as a residential house. The Ling Foundation bought the house and relocated it to its current location in Södra Ljunga in 1939.

Continue the tour past the burial ground at Brunnsholm towards Ljunga Brunn. Here, you will find a grill area and a gazebo where you can take a break. The tour then returns to Södra Ljunga and the church.

The original stone church was built in the 12th or 13th century. A major renovation and rebuild took place in the 1790s, leaving only the northern wall of the nave and the eastern wall of the chancel from the original church.

Finally, make your way back to the hostel.
